Marie, Sam, Rasa and I rode with the guys from TFL, who are organizing the Tour leg next year, and several other riders largely from Canterbury, the official Tour De France route last Sunday. 216km from Admiralty Arch to Canterbury. Can't write a full report as we have been sworn to secrecy over the actual route - it is not going to be launched for some time yet! It was a great day and met some great new people. It took just over 8 hours riding time. Jayne

message from oz...
I'm currently in Australia competing in the World Masters Games in Melbourne - an event billed as the Masters Olympics - covering 26 sports with over 25,000 competitors!

I'm riding in all the cycling events - 3 Road (Crit, T.T. & Road Race) & 4 Track (Sprint, 2km Pursuit, 500mtr T.T. & 5km Scratch). So far completed the Crit. & all the Track races. No medals so far unfortunately, but some near misses (the competitions stiffer than at the UCI Worlds in Manchester!). Got beaten in the ride off for the bronze in the pursuit by the current world champion and in the sprint managed to get to the final - a five up affair - with the other four riders either current or multi past world masters champions ! Two Aussies, an American and a German. I was in a possible medal position but got badly "chopped" going into the final banking by the Aussie who went on to win and consequently ended up fifth - didn't bother to protest as "Aussie rules" apply !

So I'm now pinning my medal hopes on the road race and t.t. (God forbid!)

Regards,

Brian 10-10-02

Karl after winning the De Laune CC junior twenty five mile trophy on Sunday 7 July. Well, actually it was 16 miles as roadwork's forced the organisers to modify the hilly course. Karl also finished third overall, which was very satisfying, after all Karl is still only fifteen.  Well done! 21-07-02
