trophies and medals to be engraved in plenty of time for the awards at the
Belgium Night in November.

Happy birthday, Ken Knapman, are you going to autograph copies of this
month’s DLN at the Belgium Night Ken?

What a great Tour of Britain, apart from some horrendous weather,
especially in the Lake District. I was in London for the final day, as were
many club members. Were we there to cheer on Cav and Brad, or was it for
our own Steve Carter-Smith riding in the Gentleman’s Event, well done
Steve for coming third. The club members I saw were, Mike Peel, Dave
Haggart, Nigel Scales, Steve Valentine, Roy Savery, Mick & Debbie Valentine
and Jeremy White. The crowds of fans were gathered in the greatest
numbers we have ever seen, long may it continue.

Our daily fix of cycling over the last few weeks is coming to an end, let’s
hope Wednesday 25 September will be a special day for Sir Bradley Wiggins
th
in the World Road Time trial and by the time you read this we have another
World Champion, or maybe multiple World champions, such is our talent in
both men and women’s events, especially, Simon Yates in the under 23’s

rd
who looks a very strong candidate after his 3 place in the ToB.
The hill climb will be our last event this year and is going to be held, by kind
permission, in with the Dulwich Paragon club event on Saturday 19 October.
(White Lane 11am)

Finally I was out at the KCA 12 hour assisting Mark Gidney, several weeks
ago, who unfortunately had to abandon due to an old knee problem
reoccurring. Whilst out around the course I had occasion to speak to Esther
Carpenter, the organiser, and I told her it was my intention, if all is well, to
ride next year. I said I was going to encourage other De Laune members to
ride, as a way of celebrating our 125 anniversary year. To see perhaps a
th
half a dozen or so of us ‘out there’ could help promote our club’s profile, so
how about it? I have already spoken to a few of you, Alan I’ve got you down!
Mark I hope you will also have another go. Jayne I also spoke to you, so as
you challenged ‘Mt Blanc’ riding the 12 hour will be a cinch for you. Please
all think about it, it’s a great day out.

Hope to see lots of you at the SGM.
