As it happens my first opportunity to get more miles in was last weekend
- Herne Hill Youth CC's annual trip to Wales. I've been a bit worried about
the trip for a few months, since most of my riding has been limited to an
occasional 45 min commute. So trying to keep up with fast teenagers up
and down the hills and valleys of S.Wales was unknown territory for me, and
I wondered if my knees would hold out.

I'm pleased to say that they did, thanks to some disciplined stretching.
This gives me confidence to try a club run or two before long. Two
observations from this trip, however -
1) the older I get, the younger the kids are who I'm able to keep up with.
2) the more I cycle, the more I eat, cancelling out any benefits.

So what I've decided to do is to measure my progress in terms of well-being
rather than in waistline. I'll let you know how I get on.

Bill Wright.
