The first Olympic Games after WWI.

∙ Tommy Lance and Harry Ryan took the gold in the 2,000m tandem event
          – GB’s last gold until Chris Boardman’s pursuit gold in 1992!

 Beryl Burton
“BB” won 96 RTTC (CTT) titles across 10, 15, 25, 30, 50 and 100 miles and
12 hours. She took the Women’s BBAR title 25 consecutive times between
1959 and 1983. In 2014 she was still in the top 5 for National records at
all CTT distances except the 24 hour – the only one to elude her. (And these
times were set in the days before aero helmets, aerobars, aero wheels etc).
She still holds the 12hr record at 277.25 miles, set in 1967 – which for 2
years was also the outright record – male or female. On the track: National
pursuit champion 13 times, and 5 World pursuit titles, starting in 1959.
She also won 2 World Road Race Championships and the Women’s National
Road Race title 13 times between 1959 and 1976 – the latter time being
beaten by her daughter Denise, who she famously fell out with because she
felt she’d soft-pedalled during their break. (Although the grudge was
apparently fuelled more by a feeling she’d been soft-pedalling on the
 housework even more!)

 Eileen Sheridan
Sheridan won the Women’s BBAR in 1949 and 1950 - her ride of 237.32
miles in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation “12” in 1949 set a national
record and was only beaten by 4 men, with the winner, Des Robinson only
covering 6 miles more. She also took national championships at 25 mils
in 1945, and 50 and 100 miles in 1950. She broke records at 30 miles
