Fred Peachey Open 25 TT
                                         and
                                 Club Championship

The promise of some fine weather for the Open 25 did not materialise until
after the whole event was done and dusted. The riders had to endure a dull
misty and chilly morning, nevertheless some cracking times were recorded.

We could only attract 44 riders on the preferred Chilham course near
Canterbury/Ashford and just one of these was from the De Laune - Steve
Carter Smith who recorded a time of 1.7.43 from number 1 spot. So
congratulations to Steve you are the Club 25 Champion for 2018, well done.
Bearing in mind Steve is due to have a new knee fitted today (21 st May) it was
an exceptional ride. When asked on the start line 'are you going to put your
feet up for the rest of the season' his answer was 'no – I shall be training for
the Championship 50 in 10 weeks time' What a glutton for punishment the
       man is. Good luck.

As usual there was a flurry of De Laune people at the event helping out in the
       shape of :

Birthday 'Boy' son in law Ian as start timekeeper Daughter Claire who
'manned' the signing on an off, Mike Peel in his usual role of pusher off,
Marshals - Stack, Tich, Mick & Debbie (+ dog), Alan Constable, Lenny Brown,
Roy Savery, Malc Adams and Alan Rowe, Mike and Ann Hartley kept the
       result board up to date

Our intrepid motor cycle out-rider Terry Deeley who transferred times from
the finish to the hall, in exchange for lots of tea to warm him up. I might
add that the finish timekeeper in the car was in fits of laughter at one time
      – we realised that there was no phone signal between the finish and the hall,
Val had the idea that Terry could be coerced into transferring times, so would
flag him down when he went by. Terry ignored Val's waiving so, undaunted,
Val started to run/jog to where he had stopped some 200 yards up the road.
