Tour stage. Now we see everything blow by blow, with well-informed
commentary teams, we've lost (most of) the stupid interview questions we
used to get (how many times do you fall off, why do you shave your legs
medal awarded for riding between Belgium and Turkey in 15 days (again!).
Apparently Jayne rode 3043km - moving time 10 days 2 etc) and they even
begin to explain tactics. After Jason Kenny's third Gold medal, Clare Balding
asked Sir Chris Hoy why he thought Kenny was such a world-beating sprinter.
Without a moment's hesitation, Chris reeled off eight qualities with such
fluency that I had to pause and replay the commentary. Not bad for someone
whose own record medal haul had just been equalled by a young upstart (and
probably will be surpassed next time round).

Ok, granted there was the storm in a teacup about whether Chris Boardman
should have the temerity to make assumptions about who does or doesn't
make the tea in the Trott/Kenny household. There were also the whingeing
Aussies who thought there was something fishy about the GB team not
prioritising the World Champs and then cleaning up at the Olympics. But
mostly, it was all about the wonderful success story of sixteen riders
coming away with 21 medals of various colours.

I feel there should probably have been at least one Olympic medal awarded
for riding between Belgium and Turkey in 15 days (again!). Apparently Jayne
rode 3043km - moving time 10 days 2 hours, stationary time 5 days 3 hours.
Mostly 16-hour days. I guess that since it didn't happen in Brazil, maybe we
can forgive the Rio organisers and the BBC for being a bit preoccupied and
not keeping track of this. Wow. Just Wow.

Sorry to have to correct you on the distance ridden by Jayne as her total km
would have been just short of 4000km, (1) her tracker was not working for
several time during her ride (2) it only recorded in a straight line between
recording points (3) see the non recording areas on the chart on page 20. Ed.
