De Laune Cycling Club

New members for 2007 included Sarah Archdeacon, Bert Wason (rejoiner),
Ken Legge (rejoiner), Tony Miller (rejoiner) Janette Starsmeare and Adam
Starsmeare, Wedding bells rang for Terry Deeley and Carol, whilst John
& Eileen Geoghegan celebrated their 40th . Sadly we lost Ken Fuller one
of our past presidents and a stalwart worker for the club during the
clubroom building years. .

A new off road circuit became available in Kent at Betteshanger Colliery
(Fowlmead Country Park), however the opening was delayed due to a lack
of mains water and electricity.

An opportunity to contribute £200 towards a circuit training course run
under the auspices of Herne Hill Youth CC was highlighted by Bill Wright,
Don White questioned as to how the club would benefit. Opportunity not
followed up. Committee discussed as to whether the club should become
involved with coaching in schools. Although we had part funded various
individuals for coaching qualifications, all of these coaches had assisted
the Herne Hill Youth CC, the only coach left with the De Laune now was Bill
Wright and he said he was fully involved with Herne Hill Youth CC in that
regard.
Later in the year a request was made for a substantial sum of money over
3 years to sponsor the Herne Hill Youth CC Development Squad. Lengthy
discussions ensued over many meetings the consensus was that this would
not be advantageous to the De Laune, inasmuch as it was thought few
members of the squad would join us.

Nigel Scales penned a series of amusingly handy guides for the beginner
which were published in for DLN outlining all aspects of the sport. The
articles were meant to be thought provoking - they certainly provoked some
responses. James Peckham explained how to Train with Power - thought
to be the Holy Grail for training. Peter Jenn travelled New Zealand by
bike, flying out via LA with just a saddlebag, rucksack and fold up bike -
thats what I call travelling light. Roy Savery crashed on Herne Hill
fracturing his collar bone and a few ribs. Thanks were expressed at the
AGM to Bill Wright as Memorial Trustee/Secretary for the work undertaken
pertaining to the Club's status as a Community Amateur Sports Club.
Bill Wright & Dot Fuller were both awarded a Gold Badge of Honour. A
