Brian Saxton
*Max Sciandri was born in Derby
to an Italian father and English
mother but left England for his
father's home country at an
early age. He became a
professional cyclist in 1989 and,
after missing selection for the
Italian World Championship
team, switched nationalities in
1995 and became a British
citizen, returning to Italy in
2003 where he took up a
position with British Cycling as
head of its Italian-based
training programme for young
riders. After seven years in the
post, he left to become
Assistant Director Sportif with
the BMC squad.
