Yorkshire Building Society colleagues were announced as
winners at the Third Sector
Business Charity Awards 2015.
The Society’s award in the challenge event category recognised the success
of colleagues from the Society who took part in cycle endurance tests to
raise £54,000 for Marie Curie last June.
Every £20 raised in Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign will
fund one hour of care. The Society is aiming to raise £500,000 by December
2016, which equates to funding an hour of care by a Marie Curie Nurse for
every hour of the campaign.
Almost 50 colleagues undertook a part in completing the 339-mile route of
the opening three stages of the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart, of which
the Society was an official partner.
A wider challenge was held across all of the Society's branches and office
sites with colleagues tasked to ride 118 miles on exercise bikes in one day –
the same distance as the first stage of the tour - and a total distance of
15,774 miles was covered over the course of the day.
